Spotify, the world’s leading music streaming platform, has announced a new pilot program: NFT Playlists.
This new experiment aims to revolutionize the way people listen to music. NFT Playlists allow unique NFT owners to provide an exclusive music experience to members of web3 communities. The first web3 communities to enter this pilot feature are gaming startup Overlord and the Bored Ape band “KINGSHIP”.
This beta test of playlists compatible with non-fungible tokens is taking place on Android mobiles in the US, UK, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.
The service therefore allows users with music NFTs to connect their MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Rainbow, Ledger Live or Zerion wallets, and play their audio NFT on the Spotify app.
A Spotify spokesperson told CoinDesk that the platform “regularly conducts a number of tests in an effort to improve the user experience.”
Spotify says Kingship, Universal Music Group’s metaverse band, as well as the Overlord game ecosystem, the NFT Fluf character community and Kevin Rose’s Moonbirds are participating in the test.
This test of playlists that are compatible with non-fungible tokens illustrates the growing integration of NFT into the world of music and music streaming.
