Meta (Facebook) plans to create a decentralized social network

Meta is currently working on a decentralized social network to compete with Twitter and which allows to publish in text format. The American multinational, called P92, would be decentralized and will allow users to connect with their Instagram credentials.

Following a report by MoneyControl, a Meta representative confirmed in the press that the Palo Alto-based company was working on a decentralized social network project.

We’re exploring a standalone decentralized social network for sharing text-based updates. We think there is an opportunity for a separate space where creators and public figures can share timely updates about their interests,” the spokesperson commented without giving further details.

The new Twitter-like social network would be compatible with ActivityPub, the protocol used by Mastodon.

The sources cited by MoneyControl further indicate that the application will leverage existing Instagram data.
